2024 at a glance - what's coming up for Down for the Count!

Published: 03 Jan 2024

2023 was a big year for Down for the Count! Our All-Stars band took A Century of Swing across England, Scotland and Wales, and our Orchestra embarked on two huge tours, Voices of Swing and Swing Into Christmas, the latter being our biggest and most successful tour to date.

We’re already swinging back into action for what promises to be another absolutely fantastic year of live swing and jazz music - our All-Stars will continue to take audiences back in time as we resume the A Century of Swing tour, hitting some brand new venues and regions (yes, we’re finally coming to the north east!). Our Orchestra is also back on tour this spring with our new show ‘Songs from the Golden Age of Swing’, which is heading to 6 of our favourite venues in England.

We will also, of course, be hitting the jazz clubs again this year. We already have some dates at the Pizza Express venues in London lined up - don’t miss our first one on Fri 12 Jan at The Pheasantry and check out the full list of currently confirmed dates here.

A Century of Swing with Down for the Count All-Stars

Our first All-Stars gigs of 2024 are fast approaching, and we’re thrilled to be continuing our journey around the UK bringing a taste of nostalgia and delving into the history of the swing genre.

You may have heard us say before that “no two shows are ever the same”, and that is absolutely true! Each night sees a new setlist and completely improvised blues jams, so if you’ve been along before and want to come back, rest assured knowing that it will be a different show to the one you saw last time.

We’re kicking off A Century of Swing in Sevenoaks on Sat 13 Jan, and then we’ll be heading all over England and Scotland for the rest of the year. See our full list of dates here to find out when we’re coming near you (we're adding new dates all the time so if you don't see anything close, it's worth checking back in a month or so).

Orchestra Tours

Our Orchestra will also be back on tour this year, bring our live swing music show to audiences throughout the country.

In the spring we will be touring a new show, Songs from the Golden Age of Swing, which we debuted at Cadogan Hall in September 2023. The show will feature beautiful tunes from 1950s America, when artists such as Frank Sinatra, Judy Garland, Nat 'King' Cole, Ella Fitzgerald and many more were accompanied by amazing studio orchestras to record the definite versions of some of the best music from the Great American Songbook.

We will be taking the show to 6 of our favourite venues around England: West Road Concert Hall (Cambridge), Turner Sims (Southampton), Cadogan Hall (London), The Stoller Hall (Manchester), St. George’s Hall (Liverpool), and St. George’s (Bristol). This tour is short but very sweet, and due to limited seating at some venues, we’re expecting this to sell fast. All shows are on sale now, so book soon to secure the best seats in the house - and we’ll see you in the spring!

As mentioned, Swing Into Christmas will return for another year this November and December. Dates for this are slowly coming on sale - Nottingham, Cambridge and Bath are already on sale if those are your local shows and you want to book in early! We absolutely loved Swing Into Christmas 2023, which was our biggest and most successful tour to date and we’re thrilled to be bringing it back for another wonderful year of festive fun! Keep an eye on our website, social media and monthly mailing list for any Swing Into Christmas date announcements!

Cadogan Hall shows

We are thrilled to be returning to Cadogan Hall for four shows in 2024. One of these shows will occur during our spring tour, two during our Christmas tour, and then one will be a special standalone concert on Saturday 12 October (tickets will be on sale soon).

It’s a huge honour for us to play on the Cadogan Hall stage, let alone to perform four times in one year! A huge thank you to the staff at Cadogan Hall for helping us make this happen, and thank you to everyone who comes to our concerts at both Cadogan Hall and other venues across the country! Your support helps us reach these huge milestones, and we really couldn’t do it without you.

Jazz club shows

For those of you who love the intimate jazz club setting, you’ll be pleased to know that we already have plenty confirmed for 2024!

Our 7-piece All-Stars line-up will be playing an Ella, Louis, Nat & More show on Fri 12 Jan at The Pheasantry in Soho, and we’ll also be performing Sunday Jazz Lunch and Sunday Jazz Dinner shows on Sun 5 May at Pizza Express Soho.

We will also be performing our Music of Motown show on Tue 27 Feb at Pizza Express Holborn - this is always an immensely popular one, so we recommend booking in advance!

Finally, we found out today that we will be at both Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club and Twinwood Festival this year! We're not allowed to tell you the dates just yet - the first announcements will be on our Mailing List so sign up today if you want to be the first to know!

And there's more...

Finally, we will be appearing at events such as the London Gala Ball and Cheltenham Swing Dance Festival, so if you love our music and enjoy dancing the night away, you know where to find us! And we'll also be performing at countless private events and weddings as well.

It's already shaping up to be a fantastic year and we can't wait to perform for you!
