2024: A summer of swing with Down for the Count!

Published: 21 May 2024

Summer is nearly here, and Down for the Count have plenty of exciting events for your diary this summer! Whether you’re looking for a fantastic outdoor theatre show, a cosy jazz club show, a festival, or some entertainment for an upcoming celebration, we’ve got you covered!

A Century of Swing theatre tour

Whilst summer is a slightly quieter time for our theatre shows, we still have some on the calendar for you to come along to.

Our All-Stars will be performing our popular A Century of Swing show in Camberley, Worthing, and Norwich this June. Our Norwich show is already close to selling out, however there are currently still tickets available for our Camberley and Worthing shows.

Then in September there is the unique opportunity to see us in the great outdoors as we return to Brighton Open Air Theatre for the fourth time. This is always a highlight of the calendar for us and we can't wait to return to this one-of-a-kind venue on the afternoon of Sun 8 Sept.

Ella, Louis, Nat & More at The Pheasantry, Pizza Express

We are thrilled to back for another jazz club residence in London this July and August. The Pheasantry is the Pizza Express Jazz Club on the King's Road, Chelsea, and is a wonderful spot to enjoy live music, pizza and wine in the evening after a day soaking up the rays in the nearby London parks!

The venue is the smallest of the London Pizza Express Jazz Clubs, meaning that we can only fit 6 or 7 musicians on the stage - but that means that our show is totally different from what you've come to expect from our All-Stars!

We'll be concentrating on small band repertoire from Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Nat King Cole, and many more - it's a chance to hear our fabulous soloists in more detail and we've got lots of surprises in store for you.

Our Motown Spectacular at Twinwood Festival

We’ll back at Twinwood Festival again this year, but with something a little different: instead of our usual swing shows, this around we’ll be bringing our soul and Motown Show to the main stage!

We're delighted to be asked to headline the festival on Friday evening, where we'll be filling the Arena with the best soul and Motown music - expect lots of Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, and much more!

Please note that the Friday evening entertainment at Twinwood Festival is only open to campers. Tickets for Twinwood Festival are available on their website.

Weddings and Events

Wedding season is upon us, so our function bands will be busy performing at weddings and parties up and down the country this summer. We're even going abroad for a few international weddings which is incredibly exciting!

If you’re looking for some entertainment for an upcoming wedding or event this summer, please do not hesitate to get in touch! We have sensational party bands, background jazz bands, interactive roaming bands, and classy ceremony musicians - head over to our main home for private event hire, Mike Paul-Smith Music, and get in touch with Mike today to find out how we can transform your event.
